Landscaping Ideas for Slopes

Is your home built on sloped property? Trying to come up with ideas on how to transform your sloped yard can be even more frustrating than trying to mow it. But we have some ideas to help you fix your sloped landscaping into a beautiful area.

1. Retaining Wall: A retaining wall is not only a structure used to hold sloping ground in place and prevent erosion and movement of soil, but it is also a beautiful architectural element that can bring a sense of intimacy to your landscaping. There are many materials that can be used to build a retaining wall such as flagstone, fieldstone,  concrete, and more. Building a functional retaining wall needs a lot of planning, so be sure to sit down with a professional contractor when drawing up your plans.
2. Terraces: If your property allows for it, maybe you would prefer a series of walls, tiered throughout your slope. Better Homes and Garden suggests paving a level to create a patio and a comfy seating area for a great place to sit and enjoy the rest of your garden/yard. Used tiered retaining walls can allow for more flexibility in design and can be even more efficient in preventing erosion. But again, be sure to work with a professional contractor.
3. Boulders: A Boulder alone can add a level of magnificence to your landscaping, but adding several boulders anchored in the soil adds a natural beauty that can’t be beat. Bury the boulders 1/3 or ½ of the rock to keep it anchored and stabilized. Finish your natural slope look with flowers and other plants.
