Newnan Landscape Supply Company | Trendy Ideas for Your 2012 Hardscaping

Hardscaping is the use of non-plant elements in the landscape. This can include boulders, walkways, patios, retaining walls, and more.

Last week we talked about a few things to keep in mind when planning a hardscape design. Taking in consideration the entire landscaping and future plans, checking for drainage issues, and creating a focal point are all important items on your hardscaping checklist.  We love hardscaping because it is a fantastic way to enhance the image of your landscaping by adding dimension and personality.  When deciding on a plan for hardscaping on your property you will surely find that the options are practically limitless!  Here are a few of our favorite hardscaping items and ideas to help get you started in the creative planning process:

One of our favorite hardscaping items is boulders.  Boulders are a popular choice when it comes to hardscaping.  If used correctly, boulders can add a beautiful, three-dimensional aspect to your garden or yard.  It is important, still, to always plan ahead for boulders.  Some people purchase boulders for their landscaping on a whim because they are so gorgeous.  But unfortunately, if you have not gone through the planning process before hand, you may find that the gorgeous decorative rock you bought will not fit in properly with the rest of your landscaping.  One common mistake with boulders is placing them flush with the ground.  If you think about rocks in nature, you typically do not see them lying on top of the ground, but rather embedded in the ground.  So you will want to bury a few inches of the boulder to give it a natural look.

Creating a stunning walkway through your landscaping is another way to enhance the image of your property.  There are so many different materials that can be used for walkways: flagstone, fieldstone, and pavers are just a few.  You can even mix materials to create an eclectic feel to your walkway.  One of the most common mistakes that people make with walkways is assuming that they have to be formed in straight lines.  While straight walkways do work, we love a walkway that moves and flows naturally through the rest of the landscaping.  Adding a walkway will not only add style and flair to your landscaping, but it will also serve you functionally.

Water Features

Water features are another one of our favorite ways to create a stunning hardscape feature in your landscaping.  From fountains to ponds – incorporating water features in your landscaping will not only enhance the image of your property, but will also create a tranquil, serene getaway for you and your family to enjoy for years to come.  Imagine having your morning cup of coffee on your outdoor patio enjoying the sounds of your own private waterfall!
