Newnan Landscaping Supply | Mulch Basics

Mulch beautifies any landscape and provides plant-healthy benefits.

Because we have worked in the Newnan landscape supply business for over thirty years, we have heard just about every landscaping question you might be able to think of.  Questions like: how to use pavestones, how to create tranquil water features, or even how to use boulders in landscaping – But questions about mulch tops them all.  As one of our top-selling landscaping supply items, we have acquired a great deal of knowledge about mulch and would like to share some of that with you so that you can use mulch properly in your landscaping.  So for the next couple of weeks, keep an eye out on our “Learn to Mulch” series.

What is mulch anyways?

Mulch, simply put, is any type of material that is spread or laid over the surface of the soil as a covering.  At Vining Stone, we carry all different types of mulch, inorganic and organic.  These include: natural red oak, dyed hardwood, cypress and pine mulch and nuggets.  We also carry certified “kid safe” mulch for the safety of your family or client.

Why should I use mulch?

There are many benefits from using mulch.  Not only will mulch give your landscaping an aesthetically pleasing appearance, but it functional as well.  Some of these benefits include: Retaining moisture in the soil, regulating soil temperature, and suppressing the growth of unwanted and unsightly weeds.  Organic mulch also has the added benefit of improving the fertility of your soil.  If you are a gardener, this is a huge deal.

How do I decide which mulch to use?

Before you can mulch your yard you have to decide on what type of mulch will best suit the project you are working on.  Different factors and goals require different mulches.  For example, the mulch you might use to best control weeds is different than the one you would want to use for improving soil fertility.  Do you want a mulch that is biodegradable and will break down, becoming part of the soil? Or do you want mulch that purely for appearance purposes only? These are questions that have to be answered when deciding on mulch.  Fortunately, one of our experienced and knowledgeable representatives can help you determine which one of our many types of mulch will work best for you and the landscaping project.

Mulching doesn’t have to be a headache. In fact, it is one of the easiest things you can do to improve the appearance of your landscaping.  Vining Stone has the widest variety and in-stock supply of stone, mulches, decorative rocks, gravel, pavers, dirt and other landscaping material in South Atlanta at an affordable price.  For more information on the landscaping supplies we carry or for pricing estimates, give us a call at 770-252-6336 or contact us on the web: www.viningstone.com
